Although previous trials of magnetic bracelets in a number of countries had proved negative, the amazing benefits being enjoyed by people wearing Nigel’s magnet design led to the Arthritis Research Campaign charity commissioning an independent clinical trial testing his product under an approved medical protocol.
Analysis of the results showed that the patients wearing the bracelet he designed reported a greater reduction in their level of pain compared to other magnets or placebos. A full peer reviewed report was published in the British Medical Journal*, in which it stated that “Whatever the mechanism, the benefit from the magnetic bracelets (Nigel’s design) seems clinically useful” and continued to mention that the cost of the bracelet was a fraction of that spent on newer non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAI pain relief drugs).
The clinical trial represented a benchmark in magnet therapy and as understanding continues to grow so has the number of trials, leading Nyjon K. Eccles, M.R.C.P., Ph.D., to state as the conclusion to his A Critical Review of Randomized Controlled Trials of Static Magnets for Pain Relief that “The weight of evidence from published, well-conducted controlled trials suggests that static magnetic fields are able to induce analgesia.”
Many customers of Nigel’s magnetic products have consistently reported accelerated healing of injuries and wounds, but of course these cannot be accepted as scientifically meaningful as they are subjective. However, a study published in 2010 has concluded that a magnetic field can have a beneficial effect on both the duration and the strength of a healed wound.

· Blood is the body’s transport system, carrying oxygen and nutrients to all the cells and removing waste.
· Magnet Strength. Beware of advertisements stating the gauss (strength) of a magnet. For example 1,000 gauss, 5,000 gauss etc. is totally meaningless without stating the mass of the magnet, the field orientation, and at which point the gauss was measured. Gauss decreases exponentially and a magnet with a quoted gauss of 5,000 may be reduced to less than 100 in just a couple of millimetres, whereas a magnet of 1,500 gauss can still have a field measuring 900 or more several millimetres away.

There is an increasing use of TDM (often referred to as dermal patches) to deliver vitamins, drugs and nutrients on a sustained basis due to its ability to bypass the usual gastrointestinal path. The BrodTeNS provides the body with one of the most essential minerals through TDM - copper.
Of course TDM is not new, copper bracelets and rings have been providing TDM for years! Copper is one of a relatively small group of metallic elements which are essential to human health and has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. It has also been used to assist healing through its anti-bacterial properties and for the purification of drinking water. More recently, research has indicated that copper helps prevent inflammation in arthritis and similar diseases. Research is ongoing into anti-ulcer and anti-inflammatory medicines containing copper, its use in radiology and for treating convulsions and epilepsy. Copper combines with certain proteins to produce enzymes that act as catalysts to help a number of body functions. Some help to provide the energy required for biochemical reactions including acting as a catalyst for the production of haemoglobin, the oxygen carrying blood component. The BrodTeNS uses a copper pad as part of its microcurrent generation and this also provides a supply of TDM copper to the body, in the same way as a copper bracelet or ring.

Acupressure is a form of touch therapy that utilizes the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In acupressure, the same points on the body are used as in acupuncture, but are stimulated with finger pressure instead of the invasive insertion of needles. Acupressure is used to relieve a variety of symptoms and pain.
Acupuncture has been practised in the East for centuries and in recent years has become more acceptable in the West, both as a complimentary and a mainstream medicine. Stimulating the P6 acupressure point located on the underside of the wrist has been found particularly effective in combating nausea caused by travel (motion sickness), pregnancy (morning sickness), chemotherapy and post operative anaesthesia.
It was noted that many people wearing the early magnetic bracelet developed by Nigel Broderick claimed relief from travel sickness, most probably because the magnet was positioned over the P6 point. The Brod® TeNS is designed to be worn in the same position as the original bracelet, on the underside of the wrist, above the P6 pressure point (about 3 fingers width up from the main crease of skin by the wrist) as the bracelet now includes a small acupressure stimulator. With a radius of only 2.5mm the stimulator is not normally felt, but applying gentle pressure by momentarily holding the body of the Brod® TeNS tighter to the wrist can help reduce or prevent the feeling of nausea.
